Hugh Methner Obituary

Hugh Methner
Hugh Leon Methner, 88 of Midland, passed away peacefully on June 29th, 2025 at Story Point Assisted Living in Midland, MI. He was born to the late Leon Methner and Helen Methner on January 4th 1937 in Beaverton, MI. Hugh is preceded in death by his sister Carole Macklem and brother Wayne Methner. He is survived by his brother Jerry Methner as well as his long time friend Barb Clark, her children, grand children, and great grand children whom he loved and considered his own. As well as several nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Beaverton, MI where he attended Beaverton schools. He was well rounded playing many sports including basketball and received honors throughout his school years. He attended Colleges including University of Michigan, Graceland University and Central Michigan. He received a degree in teaching and dedicated many years to being a math teacher and football coach in Garden City. After retiring he went back to teaching in the jail system, helping individuals receive their GEDs. He loved U of M football, Tigers baseball, and golfing. He was a long-time member of the Eagles club and spent many years in golf leagues with great friends. He took many trips to the Upper Peninsula and Florida to visit friends and family. His favorite restaurant was Sanford Lake Bar and Grill where he would often reserve a large table not knowing who would come. His table would always end up full surrounded by his loving family.
He had a very fulfilling life spending many years with his loved ones. He was a wonderful man and devoted Christian who touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
A cremation has taken place per his wishes and a celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Wounded Warrior Project and/or Midland Eagles in his honor.
