My first memory of Hugh Moran was on the day after Christmas 1961. My mother had her seventh child on Christmas Eve and she and the baby were still in the hospital. I was 9 years old and the oldest child. All of us Miles kids were very sick and we were all laying on the two couches and the arm chair. Christmas toys and a wooden toboggan were strewn around the room. Our Grandma had been helping take care of us, but she got sick and had to go home to bed. The front door opened and in came cousin, Anne Marie and the tallest man I ever saw! Anne Marie introduced us to her fiancé, Hugh Moran.
Since there was no place for them to sit down, Hugh propped the toboggan from one couch to edge of the chair and he and Anne Marie sat on it to visit with us. They were both so nice and asked us about our new baby brother, David. I will never forget that day. They were the only visitors we had that Christmas.
Love, Nancy Miles James
