Hughgee "Gene" Wofford

Hughgee "Gene" Wofford was born March 15, 1940, and passed away December 11, 2025, at the age of 85.
Gene leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering love. Though a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes. He was the kind of person who would give without being asked and help without hesitation, always ready to do anything for anyone who needed him.

He was loving in the most genuine ways, steady and dependable, with a heart that held space for everyone around him. Those who knew him also knew he could be a bit hardheaded at times, but even that was part of his charm, a reflection of his determination, his loyalty, and his deep conviction in what he believed was right.

Gene will be remembered for the countless small acts of kindness he offered, the strength he carried quietly, and the love he shared without needing recognition. His presence made life brighter for his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing his path.

He is survived by his children; Michael Wofford and wife Sonya, Mary Jane Wofford and fiancé Elzey Bourque, and Theresa Whitfield and husband Craig; grandchildren, Wesley Higginbotham, Kellie Wofford, Brandon Hiner, Kayla Sowell, Daniel Whitfield, Eric Mitchell, Selina Frey, and Ronnie Babington; numerous great grandchildren; 3 sisters; and 5 brothers.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Pat Wofford; children, Julie Babington, and Leslie Godeaux; parents, Ellis and Sally Wofford; and sister, Mary Holt.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8808 Highway 87 North Orange, Texas. Interment to follow at The Cemetery, Mauriceville, Texas.
