Pierson’s Funeral ServiceHugo Sidney Joseph Laurence Jacques Saint-Georges Smith passed away peacefully at AgeCare Skypointe on October 5, 2025. He was 58 years of age.
Hugo was born in Montreal, Quebec. At the age of eight, his family moved to Alberta. He spent his school years in Raymond. Growing up he was a sprinter and won many awards in track and field. When he was thirteen he earned the top recognition in Scouting, his Chief Scout Award. He excelled in gymnastics, particularly with the rings.
Hugo had many interests. Curious about everything, learning in any field, he earned the distinction of being called the perpetual student. He dabbled in aeronautical engineering and accounting. He was even inducted in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. But his greatest love was the pharmaceutical field, combining his passion with numbers and chemistry.
He was the most compassionate selfless and generous man. Above all he loved the people he worked with. They literally became his second family. He loved to teach and was always looking for ways to make anything better and safer.
Whether near or far, he loved first and foremost his family. He thought of them and planned for them in more ways than people would imagine. Hugo may have been small in stature but was mighty in presence. He never shied away from a good debate. He lived most of his life in Calgary but never forgot his French roots and family.
Family is forever.
Dieu soit avec toi jusqu’au revoir.
Hugo will be lovingly remembered by his children, Ryan Smith, Karlee (Lyle) Millsap, Karlene (Karim) Perez; grandchildren, Jack Ryan Millsap, Carter Lyle Millsap, Nora Rose Millsap, Jaylene Bevans, Ryder Bevans, Skylee Perez, Pyper Perez, Presley Perez; great-grandchildren, Hunter Bevans, Dallas Bevans; parents, Denyse Saint-Georges Smith and Wayne Kent Smith; brothers and sisters, Léon Smith, Marie-Ève Smith, Arielle (Nick) Briand, Rémy Smith, Jérôme Smith, Marc Smith, Warren Winnipeg, Marla Thompson.
