Port Barre -Hunter Joseph Higdon, a senior at Port Barre High School, passed away on November 25, 2023, in Opelousas. He was born on March 15, 2006, at Opelousas General Health System.
Hunter was known for his friendly and outgoing personality. He had a natural ability to connect with others and always went out of his way to make people feel welcome. His kind and warm-hearted nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Throughout his life, Hunter had a strong passion for hunting and fishing. He found solace and enjoyment in the great outdoors, often spending hours exploring the wilderness and honing his skills as an outdoorsman. These hobbies brought him immense joy and allowed him to appreciate the beauty of nature.
One of Hunter's proudest accomplishments was playing baseball for the Port Barre High School team. He dedicated countless hours to perfecting his skills on the field and cherished every moment he spent representing his school. Hunter's determination and love for the sport inspired his teammates and earned him respect from coaches and opponents alike.
Hunter is survived by his loving parents, Jeremy Higdon and Rebecca Stelly of Port Barre, as well as his sister Josie Higdon. He also leaves behind his paternal grandparents, Glen and Brenda Higdon of Port Barre, and maternal grandparents Gilbert Stelly Jr. of Opelousas and Janice Thibodeaux Powell of Grand Prairie.
In addition to his immediate family, Hunter is mourned by his uncle Rusty Higdon and his wife Michelle, aunt Candace Benoit and her husband Jared of Pecaniere, and Uncle Brandon Stelly of Opelousas. Their love and support meant the world to Hunter, and he cherished the time they spent together creating fond memories.
Hunter also leaves behind his girlfriend Gracie Clark of Bayou Current, who brought happiness and joy into his life. Their bond was a source of strength and companionship, and they shared many special moments together.
Services to remember and celebrate Hunter's life will be held at Sibille Funeral Home in Port Barre. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 11:00 AM (open all night) until time of service on Wednesday. The Rosary will be prayed 6:00 PM on Tuesday evening. A Mass will be held in his honor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2:00 PM. A burial service will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.
Hunter Joseph Higdon's departure has left a void in the lives of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, infectious laughter, and genuine care for those around him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory forever bring comfort to those who loved him.
Pallbearers will be Colin Dubuc, Terrell Fontenot, Taylon Polotzola, Gavin Guidroz, Ross Higdon and Trey Mistric. Honorary pallbearers will be Drew Higdon and Cooper Benoit.
