Hunter Thomas Shaffer Harter, age 4, was granted his angel wings on Monday, December 9, 2024. Born August 7, 2020, in State College, he was the adored son of Rebeccah Harter. The two of them made a dynamic "Team Mommy and Hunter."
Though Hunter's life seems far too short to many, those who knew him and were fortunate enough to be touched by him understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His precious smile could melt the hearts of those around him and the sound of his laughter could cheer anyone up. Hunter could spend hours doing his favorite things – like feeding the ducks and watching them run around and playing endlessly with his toy trucks, cars, and tractors. He loved the color red. Hunter looked forward to spending time with his Paps going for tractor rides, reading with and helping his Great Gamma, picking on and giving "skeezes" to his GG, and getting into trouble with "his" dog Duke. He loved cuddling his cats at home, Bobin, Buttons ("Bubba"), and Shrimp. Even though Hunter faced health challenges that left him non-verbal, he never failed to recognize some of his favorite songs and shows, The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and the Ants Go Marching, to name a few, and he always had a way of letting people know what was on his mind!
With Hunter's passing, we are all reminded to cherish the life that we have while we have it. Life is to be celebrated, and that is what Hunter did each and every day. He taught all of us that nothing is ever impossible, and all fears can be overcome. He was a strong, determined and brave little boy who proved daily that nothing was too big for him.
In addition to his mother, Hunter leaves behind numerous family members including his father, Cody Shaffer, grandparents, Tony and Saprina Harter, great grandparents Molly and Butch Sampsel, and Deborah Walizer, his uncle Dustin Harter (Kalina Kelley), and cousins Owen and Evelynn Kelley, great aunt and uncle Charity "Dee" and Rob Etters and cousins Chelsey, Chadyn ("Pnut"), and Briar, great uncle and aunt Andy and Jen Harter, cousins Anna and Sara, great uncles and aunts Matt and Nikki Harter, Brian and Sarah Sampsel, Doug and Karrie Sampsel, and a great grandfather, Danny Harter, and a great extended family of additional aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was greeted in Heaven by his great grandfather, Thomas J. Walizer, and his paternal grandparents, Hope and Michael Shaffer.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 3:30 – 5:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. A memorial service will begin at 5:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor J.R. Packer, Jr. officiating. Burial services will be held privately for the family on Friday, December 20, 2024.
You may be gone from our sight, but you are never gone from our hearts.
