Hurley Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Baskerville Funeral Home Inc. - Humboldt on Jan. 14, 2026.
Mr. Hurley Taylor Jr. ("Uncle June," "Uncle Bubba," "Kern," and "Hurley Jr.") was called from this earthly dwelling to his life in glory Saturday, January 10, 2026.
He was born in Trezevant, TN on November 7, 1938, to the late Hurley Taylor Sr. and Emma Taylor.
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Wingo Missionary Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for years. He graduated from Webb High School in McKenzie, class of 1958. He served as one of the original members of the Webb Alumni Association, a member of the Carroll County Laymen, a member of the Carroll County NAACP, and a member of Caledonia Masonic Lodge # 79. He retired from the Milan Army Ammunition Plant (1965-1999), where he was a supervisor for more than thirty years.
Hurley was a loving family man, an avid fisherman, farmer, hunter, wine crafter, and a boxing fan, but most of all, he was a giver. He believed in helping others, whether it was sharing what he had planted, what he caught or simply his time and effort. Giving was a part of who he was, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
He leaves to cherish forever a loving and devoted wife of sixty-one years Bertha L. (Jones) Taylor; two daughters Masha Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN and Lotte "Candy" Taylor of Atlanta, GA; one grandchild Taylor (J´Chante) Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN; four precious great grandchildren: Terrell, Tahj, Tru, and Journei Gentry; sisters-in-law Theresa (Charles) Holt of Union City, TN Diane Jones of Milan, TN, and Renata Jones of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers-in-law: Nathaniel (Betty) Jones of Bradford, TN, Glenn (Sherry) Jones of Cleveland, OH, and Dean Jones of Jackson, TN; god sister-in-law Betty Taylor; god brothers-in-law Johnny Strayhorn of Milan, TN and George Strayhorn of Cleveland, OH; a host of loving and special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents and siblings C.H. Taylor, John Thomas Taylor, Odessia (Wilbert) Hurt, Georgia Neil Newbill, Fannie Mae (C.T.) Howard, JoAnn Taylor, Willie T. (Ralph) Tate, Earl (Mattie) Taylor, Reatha (Robert) Lipscomb, Bolygard Standford; sisters-in-law: Joanna Jones, Jean Jones, and Lovie Mae Armstrong; brothers-in-law Thomas (Johnnie Mae) Jones and Larry Jones.
