Eulogy for the Late Dr. Hyanne Eleazar Grimmond
Psalm 61: Verses 1-2: "Hear my cry, O lord, attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth, I
will cry unto You. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I."
Hyranne Eleazar Grimmond was born on September 6th, 1936, to the late parents of Job
and Valeria Grimmond at Kildonan Village, Corentyne, Berbice, he was the second of
eleven children. Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Cromarty Farm where he grew
up. He attended Wellington Park Scoth School and, also assisted his parents at the back
dam.
After reaching Fifth Standard, he moved to Georgetown with the late uncle Earnest Ceres,
where he attended Tutorial High School. Upon leaving Tutorial High, he moved to McKenzie
with another uncle, Daniel Merchant, and began his teaching career at St. Aidan's Scoth
School. He taught there for a while, then he moved back to his home on the Corentyne and
began teaching at Wellington Park Scoth School. While there, he decided that he would
move on, and in 1968 he left for London where he studied Biochemistry.
While there, he met the love of his life Sheila Robinson, and they were married. That union
produced one son, the late Kevin Grimmond. He then returned to Guyana, where he
worked at the Analyst Department. During that time, he got another son, the late Eon
Grimmond.
He, along with his wife and the late Kevin, departed for the U.S.A., where he began his
studies at the Hatfield Polytechnic and Industrial Training with Twyford Laboratories Ltd.
There he was awarded the degree in Bachelor of Science on the 6th of July 1970. He then
moved on to the University of Albany where he was conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy
(Ph.D.) on the 28th of May 1987. He did not stop there; he went on to the Department of
Personnel at Rutgers University, where he was presented with a certificate in Supervisory
Management in recognition of successful completion of Levels 1, Il, and Ill of New Jersey's
Certified Public Manager Program in 1992. He also held a Master of Public Health Degree in
the City of New York on the 28th of Oct. 1987.
Bro. Hyranne, or Banan, Dr Grimmond or Bro G. as he was called by siblings, cousins, and
friends, was a very homily son of God before becoming sick, he used to officiate at open
houses, birthdays, and weddings. He will be sorely missed by all.
He leaves to mourn his sisters: Pansy Benjamin, Evril Small, Ivy Thompson, Yvonne Henry,
Pam Grimmond, Elaine Benjamin, brothers Ronald and Oscar Benjamin; his only aunt Lois
Lambert; his cousin Lance Lambert, who was his number one man; a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, god children, and friends too numerous to mention.
May his soul sleep in peace and rise in glory.
