Hyrum Michelson Jr.

Hyrum Michelson, 83, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 12, 2026 in Pocatello, Idaho.

Hyrum was born at the Colonial Inn in Blackfoot, Idaho on February 27, 1942. He was oldest of three children born to Josephine Kluesner and Hyrum Michelson Sr.

Hyrum grew up in the Blackfoot area, attending schools there, graduating from Blackfoot High School. He was an excellent swimmer from the age of 4 years old and loved to swim at the Blackfoot Swimming Pool.

Hyrum ran a milk route for a few years until he became a Master Mechanic in 1967 at the Chevy dealership. In 1983, he opened his own auto repair shop. He also took to farming with Ileen after no longer doing mechanic work until 2024. Hyrum was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles.

On May 18, 1984, Hyrum and Shirley "Ileen" Herrick were married in Blackfoot. She preceded him in death on 6/10/2024.

Hyrum is survived by his 3 nephews J.R. (Susan) Grover, Justin (Camille) Grover, and Bart (Kim) Grover and one niece Camille Michelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Josie and Hyrum Michelson Sr.; his sister Lena Michelson Grover and brother Joseph Lee Michelson all from Blackfoot.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Moreland Cemetery.
