I believe that more than most people, Ian lived on his own terms and made the most of life. But he was also very giving and generous with the people he cared about. He was one of the most absolutely genuine people I´ve known. I believe he was the exact same Ian regardless of the situation and who was with. This was affirmed when I was able to meet some of his other friends and coworkers at a recent memorial. He and I connected over shared love for music, something in which he and I enjoyed discussing (and debating). I will remember him for organizing experiences for friends and himself. It could be meeting up at concerts, festivals, meals or sporting events. 49 years was not enough, but he lived on his own terms. I think of Ian often, and I continue to be inspired by his example of how to be a good friend.

The Cotton family of Cedar Hill, TX send our sincere condolences to the Fried family and friends. My daughter loved Mr. Fried´s AP History class. She enjoyed history because of him. We truly appreciate his contribution to our lives. Peace and blessings to you all.
