Ian Fried Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Homes, P.C. - Allentown on Dec. 24, 2024.
Ian Ross Fried, 49, of Mansfield, TX, passed away on December 20, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Melwyn Fried and the late Donna (Reiss) Fried. Ian graduated from Rutgers University and earned a juris doctorate from Seton Hall School of Law.
He began his career as in-house counsel with a boxing promoter which spurred the love of an industry that would always be a part of his life. He was a self-employed attorney-at-law in Dallas, TX and also taught AP U.S. History at Cedar Hill Independent School in Texas. In his spare time, you could find him at a Dallas Mavs game, a concert, a baseball game, or an amusement park. He loved to spend time with his friends and bring people together to experience new things. His social circle viewed him as their concierge, and he loved the role. At least once a year, he helped organize a guys trip with his college buddies. They'd pick a new city each time so long as there was a sporting event, concert, festival, or park to visit. And, wherever possible, his beloved dog, Pugsley was by his side enjoying every animal-friendly event Dallas had to offer.
Ian is survived by:
His father, Mel; a very mechanically inclined man who put up with a lot of situations proving his son not to be so good in that area
His sister, Samantha Shibla; tortured by her older brother as a child, only slightly annoyed by him as an adult, they had a wonderful friendship fueled by a love of music, roller coasters, and sarcasm
His brother-in-law, Mark; being an only child, he realized his luck but he grew to love Ian and provided invaluable IT support over the years helping him turn his computer off and on again
His nephew, Ashton; despite the distance, this mini version of Ian was loved immeasurably by his uncle. There was nothing better than a day out together in NYC, or at an amusement park, a concert, a baseball game, or a museum
His girlfriend, Gladys Koh; an amazing and worldly woman, she learned that she loved basketball, liked baseball, tolerated punk rock, but still wouldn't ride roller coasters. With Ian by her side, weekends were jam packed with tickets, reservations, and even the mundane Target run
His cousins, Eric, Karen, and Esti; now spread out in various states, memories from Grandma and Grandpa's apartment will always be cherished. A time when things seemed simpler and there was nothing that half of a cold, chocolate frosted Entenmann's donut couldn't make better
And, a fantastic group of friends; from HS, college, work, meetups, Ian was forever surrounded by amazing people who knew him to the core and loved him anyway
Family and friends will hold a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Keneseth Israel Cemetery, 2438 Coolidge St., Allentown, PA 18104. Arrangements by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Dallas Animal Services, 2911 Turtle Creek Blvd., Suite 300, Dallas, TX 75219.

I believe that more than most people, Ian lived on his own terms and made the most of life. But he was also very giving and generous with the people he cared about. He was one of the most absolutely genuine people I´ve known. I believe he was the exact same Ian regardless of the situation and who was with. This was affirmed when I was able to meet some of his other friends and coworkers at a recent memorial. He and I connected over shared love for music, something in which he and I enjoyed discussing (and debating). I will remember him for organizing experiences for friends and himself. It could be meeting up at concerts, festivals, meals or sporting events. 49 years was not enough, but he lived on his own terms. I think of Ian often, and I continue to be inspired by his example of how to be a good friend.

The Cotton family of Cedar Hill, TX send our sincere condolences to the Fried family and friends. My daughter loved Mr. Fried´s AP History class. She enjoyed history because of him. We truly appreciate his contribution to our lives. Peace and blessings to you all.
