Obituary published on Legacy.com by Williams Funeral Home - Marionville on Feb. 5, 2026.
John Harry Brangenberg Jr. of
Marionville, Missouri, entered heaven with the love of Jesus in his eyes and great joy in his heart on February 4, 2026. John was born in
Somers Point, New Jersey along with his twin sister Janet, to John Sr. and Viola Green Brangenberg on April 9, 1933. John and Janet were raised in North Plainfield, New Jersey and attended the high school there where he excelled in both Band and Baseball, before graduating in 1951. John went on to study Sales and Marketing at Rutgers University, and graduated in 1955.
After graduation, John was hired by Liberty Mutual where he first worked as a claims adjuster, moved on to personal sales and group sales, then became a District Sales Manager and Assistant Division Sales Manager until his retirement in 1997. John served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. Following his basic training at Fort George Meade in Maryland, he was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, as company clerk during the week, and enjoyed playing the trumpet in the army stage band that traveled to play in officers clubs at military bases across Europe during the weekends.
John married his high school sweetheart Marie Arlene Hardenburg on June 5, 1954. Together, they raised their family in New Jersey, Maryland, and Minnesota.
John was a natural athlete who enjoyed all sports - and especially loved playing baseball, football, basketball, softball, bowling, racquetball, and golf. He pitched for North Plainfield High and Rutgers University. John had a lifelong passion for coaching. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, church league, and work league softball for several decades.
Together, John and Marie were dedicated to serving in the life of the churches they attended through the years. John was an ordained lay pastor in the Nazarene church, served as a trustee, deacon, and church council member through the years. John thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the privilege of leading their Adult Bible Fellowship together with Marie at Casas Church in Tucson. They also enjoyed vacations across the country, especially visiting with their growing family, as well as extended trips to Hawaii during the 27 years their son served in ministry there.
John has been a proud, loving father of their three children and their own families for over six decades. John III and April Brangenberg of Tucson, Arizona. Susan and Jeffrey Wilson of Waconia, Minnesota and their children, Cassandra and Chad Vos of Cologne, Minnesota and their children, Natalie, Ella and Lewis, Jacob and Caitlyn Wilson of Hamburg, Minnesota and their children, Waylon and Avery. James and Martha Brangenberg of
Marionville, Missouri, and their children, Sara and Don Nelson of Farmington, Minnesota and their children, Jonathan and Allie, Joshua and Amelia Brangenberg of Jacksonville, Florida and their children, Noah, Scarlet, Adelaide, Lucy, James and Seth, and Sarah and Caleb Norris of
Marionville, Missouri, expecting their first child this Spring. He also deeply loved and cherished Janet's children, niece, Barbara Unger, and nephews, Larry Miller and Guy Miller.
John and Marie thrived during their years of retirement in Minnesota and Arizona. In the Spring of 2023, they moved to Missouri to receive the loving, personal care they needed from their son Jim and his wife Martha. John thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the many friends he made across the country through the years - especially his friends at church - as well as his golf buddies in Arizona. He was always very grateful for all of the family members and friends who have loved on, supported and encouraged him through the nine decades of his very full and active life with Marie.
His most fervent prayer was that every person would come to know the love, mercy and saving grace of Jesus that he knew for the last fifty years of his life. His love for God and his faith in Jesus will continue on through those who have known and loved him for generations to come.
John's family extend their love and appreciation to the friends who visited him, as well as each of the hospice workers who cared for John during the final weeks of his life.
Visitation under the direction of Williams Funeral Home in Marionville will be held from 2:30-3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Marionville with a celebration of John's life to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church.
