Ian Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road on Feb. 11, 2026.
Ian Ward, born June 4, 1948, in Shoreham, England, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at age 77. At 21, he immigrated to Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, where he met and married the love of his life, Mary. Their enduring marriage produced three children-Courtney, Ryan, and Chris-whom Ian guided with, encouragement, and strength. He later took great joy in being a grandfather to James, Will, Max, Alex, and Meghan, sharing stories, wisdom, and unwavering presence. A determined and positive man, Ian inspired those around him with his resilience and thoughtful insights. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he loved soccer and was deeply involved in youth hockey in Canada. After moving to Kentucky, he became a passionate supporter of the University of Kentucky hockey program. Predeceased by his wife Mary, Ian is survived by his sister Ann; children Courtney (Jimi), Ryan (Jenni), and Chris; grandchildren James, Will, Max, Alex, and Meghan; and a wide circle of family and friends.

He will be remembered for his profound love, strength, determination, and wisdom. Rest in peace, Dad.

To Ryan, Courtney, Chris and Ann: We are so sorry to hear of Ian´s passing. We remember the many happy times spent together at the rink, on the pitch and in each other´s homes. We spent vacations in England with your Grandma and Grandpa Ward and your Auntie Ann. Ian was a real character who brought joy into all of our lives.

Stay close to each other, tell stories and remember. You were blessed to have had him. With love from Georgetown......Vickie & Ray Pasma and family xo

The current UK Hockey family is sending thoughts and prayers to the Ward Family.

It was pleasure getting to met Mr. Ward exchanging and hearing his stories from the Kentucky Hockey program he generously gave his time to help build for student athletes for years to come.

I am devastated to hear about Ian. He was truly unforgettable and one of the funniest people I have ever met. David and I have some "Ian-isms" we say to this day. We had so many good times with Ian and Mary. Dinner outings, jazz in the park, hockey games, and all of our get togethers are memories that I will cherish forever. Rest in peace, buddy!
