Ida Anderson Obituary

Ida Anderson,89, of Gettysburg formerly of Pierre passed away on December 4, 2025 in Gettysburg, South Dakota at Avera Oahe Manor. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, December 12th at the Community Bible Church in Pierre. CLICK HERE FOR LIVESTREAM
Ida was born in Philip, South Dakota, on November 13, 1936, to Carl and Helen (Bottke) Berry. Ida grew up in Pierre and completed her education, graduating from Riggs High School. After graduation she went on to college where she earned her Teachers Certificate and years later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education. She met Wallace "Wally" Anderson and the two were united in marriage on June 28, 1958, at the First United Methodist Church in Pierre.
Ida dedicated many years to teaching at Pierre Indian Learning where she was an advocate for every child's potential. She continued in the Pierre School District as a substitute teacher after retirement and affectionately earned the title "Riddle Lady," with her clever riddles as a reward for her students for their dedication and good behavior in the classroom.
Ida's Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her love for the Bible was apparent as she spent countless hours studying its teachings. This strong faith led her to volunteer and serve on the board of the Church of Hope through the women's prison, striving to provide hope and spiritual nourishment to those in need.
Ida took great pleasure in simple joys such as baking delectable treats for her loved ones, tending to her garden, and embracing a lifestyle of health and wellness.
Ida is survived by her children, Chad (Diana) Anderson, Tauna (Joe) Wolf, Rob (Jill) Anderson, Nicolle (Chris) Dew; her brothers, Carl "Butch" (Marcie) Berry and Douglas Berry; seven grandchildren; Jordan, Elizabeth, Baily, Brady, Ashley, Trey, Kylie and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wally, her parents, Carl and Helen, and her sisters, Kit and Margaret.
