Ida Gonzalez-Garza, 64, of Orange Grove, TX passed away peacefully, Friday, February 21, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born on June 27, 1960, in Robstown, TX to Guadalupe and Rebecca Gonzalez.

Ida is preceded in death by her loving husband Ruben of 43 years, her son Andrew, her father Guadalupe, her brother Bobby and her twin sister Maria Elsa.

Ida is survived by her mother, Rebecca, siblings, Freddy, Norma and Lisa (Michael), and sister-in-law Jackie. She leaves behind 6 nieces and nephews, Alex (Lane), Tristan, Lauren, Estevan, Giselle and Alysse, great-niece Ava, and great-nephew Lincoln, all of whom she loved like her own. Ida is also survived by her mother-in-law Virginia, sisters-in-law, Rosa (Ted) and BeBe (Marcell), Godchildren and countless other loved ones.

Ida was a lifelong learner with a passion for education and public service. A graduate of Robstown High School, her academic journey began at Del Mar College where she cultivated an interest in the legal and education fields and earned an associate’s degree in Applied Science in Legal Professions with a Paralegal Specialty in August of 1993. Ida then went on to Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in May of 2000, with concentrations in Criminal Justice and Education.

After being the first in her family to graduate from college, Ida’s endless curiosity and unstoppable determination led her to The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Information Studies (M.S.I.S.) in December of 2005.

After working in positions as a paralegal, and an assistant librarian, Ida was chosen to be the Nueces County Library Director, where she oversaw the grand opening of the state-of-the-art, Keach Family Library in Robstown, TX. It was at that library where Ida would work, from 2007 until 2024, in pursuit of giving thousands of visitors every year access to technology and books.

Ida and Ruben achieved their dream of living in the country when they purchased a ranch in Orange Grove. This ranch would be the setting for many holidays, where Ida and Ruben would welcome their large family to enjoy the ranch and ride around on ATV’s. Although she loved hosting, Ida often spoke of the blessing it was to sit on the patio with her husband while watching the cows graze and dogs play, who she lovingly referred to as her “kids.”
