Ida Hutchins Obituary

WENTWORTH --- Ida "Auntie" Hutchins, 87, lifelong resident of Wentworth, NH, went home into the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, August 22, 2025. Auntie was born on November 15,1937 to Beatrice (Hadley) Hutchins and Gerald Hutchins.

Auntie never married but she treated all of her nieces and nephews like her own. She was a very special person to each and every one of them. She was lovingly known as Auntie to everyone who knew her. Her positive outlook on life was amazing and infectious.

Auntie graduated from Keene state with a Bachelor of Education/special Ed degree. She taught for 8 years at Crotched Mtn in Greenfield, NH and 30 years at the Austine School for the deaf. Her former students loved her.

Auntie was never one to sit around for any length of time, she was always on the go. She was an active member of the Baker River and Grafton County Pemi Valley Grange, Pamona, State and National Grange. Auntie was very active in the town of Wentworth, the West Rumney Church, a member of the Wentworth Historical Society, and a secretary and treasurer for the Foster Cemetery Association. She delivered dictionaries to the students in the local schools and sold Tupperware all over the state of NH making numerous friends. Needless to say, Auntie stayed very busy. Then there was her passion of knitting; Aunties hats, mittens, scarves, and slippers will be missed along with the birthday and anniversary cards she never failed to send.

Auntie is survived by her brother, Maurice Hutchins and his wife, Laura Hutchins from Enfield who cared for her and were by her side as she took her last breath; her brother, Charles Hutchins of Wentworth; 7 nieces, 4 nephews, many great nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Ray and his wife, Donna Hutchins; sister-in law, Rena Hutchins; and niece, Tammy Matthews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ida's name to Dartmouth Cancer Research Center.

Friends and family are invited to attend Calling Hours from 5pm to 7pm, Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon Street, Plymouth, NH.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Wentworth Congregational Church, 38 Wentworth Village Road, Wentworth, NH. A private burial service will follow.
