Ida M Oberst of Boise, Idaho passed away on June 9th, 2025, at a Nampa care facility. She was 86 years old and a longtime resident of Boise. Ida was born on August 30th, 1938, in California to Bernard and Emily Williamson. Her family’s travels to California mirrored the challenging journey of many Midwest families in that era whose lives were upended by the challenging conditions of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. When Ida was about six years old, she and her parents and four siblings moved from California to Boise, Idaho, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

On October 8th, 1954, Ida married Rollin Clinton (R.C) Flint and they had two sons, Ron and Bern. After R.C. passed away tragically at a young age, Ida remarried several years later on August 30th, 1960, to Bill Oberst. They had one son, Dean. For many years, Ida focused on taking care of her family and keeping things running around their property in Kuna, where they raised cattle.

When the boys had all finished school, Ida began working at the Heritage, assisting elderly patients with their needs. She worked at the Heritage for 17 years until she and Bill retired together. Ida enjoyed the friendships she formed at the Heritage and kept in touch with many of her co-workers after retirement. In their retirement years, Ida and Bill shared many adventures together including traveling to various places around the United States. However, no matter how far they traveled from home, their favorite place was their cabin in Lowman, which Bill built together with friends and family in the late 1970’s. The family has many happy memories of summer times spent up at the cabin with our cabin neighbors, the Britton family.

Ida was devoted to her family and made every holiday special, always being a “food pusher” and celebrating all the milestones that her kids and grandkids experienced. She loved her family deeply and was always prepared to feed a small army at a moment’s notice. She had strong emotions and cried easily, but she would always tell you that many of her tears were happy tears. She and Bill enjoyed joking and laughing together and spending time with their friends. She loved music and listened to it frequently as she went about her daily tasks. She also loved being out in nature and spent many miles walking through various parks in Boise, as well as around her neighborhood, where she enjoyed chatting with many neighbors whom she also counted as dear friends.

Ida and Bill had been married for 63 years when Bill passed away on June 15th, 2023. Ida was a woman of quiet strength and deep resilience, having lived a life marked by both joy and profound sorrow. Through time and life’s hardships her heart remained open and her spirit unbroken. She will be remembered for her enduring compassion, her quiet wisdom, and the steadfast way she showed love, even in the face of loneliness. Her strength was not loud, but it was lasting. She taught those who knew her about forgiveness, faith, and the quiet power of kindness.

She is survived by her three children: Ron (Betty) Flint, Bern (Karen) Flint, and Dean (Sue) Oberst as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her first husband R.C. Flint and second husband Bill Oberst.
