Ida Stathakis, 101, of Livingston, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068, shookfarmer.com.
A Funeral Ceremony will be offered on Monday at 10:00 AM at Sts. Nicholas, Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland, followed by interment at Rosedale Cemetery, Orange, New Jersey.
Raised in East Orange, Ida was the daughter of Theoharis and Garefalia Theoharis. Her father, Mr. Theoharis K. Theoharis, was among the earliest trustees of the original Saints Constantine and Helen Church in Orange, and her mother served alongside him as one of the first recorders of the church's handwritten minutes dating back to 1917. Their devotion to the Church and to Hellenic heritage shaped Ida's life from her earliest days.
Ida graduated from East Orange High School and later from Mary Washington Business School. She began her career as a bookkeeper for Weyerhaeuser before choosing to devote herself fully to raising her family.
A lifelong and extraordinarily dedicated parishioner of Sts. Nicholas, Constantine & Helen Church, Ida's service spanned generations. As a child, she attended Greek School and Sunday School; as an adult, she became a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir, and a guiding figure within the Church's Parents Teachers Organization. She held several officer positions and helped establish the Sunday Nursery School program. She also served as a parental advisor and supported the growth of the Church's youth ministries, including the GOYA. Among her many contributions, she proudly assisted with nurturing the youth program that competed in Sights and Sounds and the Junior Olympics, achievements she followed with joy for many years.
For more than 60 years, Ida was a devoted member of the Philoptochos Society, receiving the Philoptochos Mother of the Year Award and being honored at the Metropolis of New Jersey Awards Banquet. She was also a past president of both the Philoptochos and the Daughters of Penelope, and served at the District Lodge level. For many years she chaired the annual Tricky Tray, a successful fundraiser that provided essential support for church ministries.
Ida was also deeply involved in the annual Church festival since its inception in the 1970s, serving on countless committees. For decades, she welcomed guests at the front entrance, always greeting visitors with warmth, a smile, and a friendly word. In her later years, she became a proud member of the Church's Senior Citizens Group.
Ida maintained a vibrant and active lifestyle, continuing to drive well into her mid-nineties. In 2023, her lifelong service and devotion to the Greek Orthodox faith and community were honored at the Church's Annual Harvest Ball, an acknowledgment of a lifetime lived with purpose, grace, and unwavering commitment. She loved nothing better than to be surrounded by her family and friends. She loved holiday get togethers and all of her many family events and celebrations. Ida liked nothing more than a good poker game (no bingo for her). She loved her many friends at her Church's Tuesday senior citizens' group as well as all of the treasured friendships she enjoyed at her Cedar Street Commons apartment, where she lived independently through her final year. Ida was married for more than 50 years to her beloved husband, George with whom she built a life of deep faith, family, and community involvement. She was predeceased by her beloved George Stathakis, her cherished son, Nicholas Stathakis; and by her siblings, Hope Vardakis, Dorothy Stevens, Betty Pappas, and Gus Theoharis.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Betsy Campisi, and her husband Jeffrey; dear daughter-in-law, Christine Stathakis; her treasured grandchildren, Kyle Pugliesi and her husband Brett, Christopher Campisi and his wife Stephanie, Kathryn Stathakis, and Nicholas Stathakis; and her adored great-grandchildren, Merritt, Miles, Bridger, and Henry.
