Ignacio Martinez

July 31, 1942 – February 4, 2026

Ignacio Martinez passed away on February 4, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas. True to form, he left this world right on time-often reminding everyone, "Ya son las diez." He was 83 years old.

Born on July 31, 1942, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Ignacio was a man of deep character-a "strong, silent type" who spoke through his skilled hands, his steadfast faith, and a dry wit. A master craftsman, he was known for the meticulous detail he poured into his masonry and carpentry. He was a man who built things to last, and nothing stands as a greater testament to his dedication than the brick family home in Stockdale, Texas, which he built with his own hands. He lived his life with discipline and respect, known by all as a punctual man who was never late for any commitment.

His foundation was rooted in his devotion to the church; he was a man of God who walked through life with a humble heart, always trusting in the Lord to guide him Un Día a la Vez-One Day at a Time. In his spare time, he was a formidable checkers player who enjoyed the quiet strategy of the game, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite soccer team, Las Chivas.

Nothing made him happier than sitting down to his wife Celia's authentic Guadalajara-style cooking. Whether it was her tamales, or his particular favorites, tacos de cabeza and tacos de lengua, he shared those meals with deep gratitude. Music was the backdrop of his life; whether it was the accordion of Ramón Ayala or the harmonies of Las Hermanas Huerta, Ignacio held every lyric in his heart. He was a musician in his own right, often playing the harmonica, and he never met a verse of "La Rama del Mesquite" he couldn't finish, even in his final days.

Ignacio spent much of his life working and living in a country that was not his own, all so his family could have opportunities he never did. He showed his love through action, sacrifice, and consistency. He built homes, raised generations, and left behind a legacy of hard work, honesty, and devotion.

Ignacio's greatest masterpiece was the life he built alongside his wife of 65 years, Celia M. Martinez. Together, they shared a lifetime of unbreakable devotion. He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Anastasio and Hilaria Martinez, and his siblings, Jesus and Aurelia.

His legacy lives on through his eleven children: Maria M. "Nena" Sanchez, Maria C. "Concha" (Juan) Olvera, Esteban (Yolanda) Martinez, Ignacia (Jaime Jr.) Camero, Cecilia (Ernesto R.) Romero, Alfredo Martinez, Sammy (Melissa) Martinez, Saul (Irasema) Martinez, Hector (Michelle) Martinez, Ruben (Kasey) Martinez, and Carlos Martinez. He also leaves behind 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren who will forever remember his strength and the music that filled his spirit.

The song of his life has ended, but the melody remains in the hearts of all who loved him.
