Ignatius "Iggy" L. Lovoy, aged 78, of Morris, Alabama, passed away on February 28, 2026. The son of the late Lawrence and Lillian Lovoy in Birmingham, Alabama, Iggy was a man of quiet strength and profound kindness who lived his life dedicated to God, family, and his friends. A stalwart believer in God and the power of faith, Iggy was a longtime member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and served his community as a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
A family man, Iggy's devotion was measured in the time he gave so freely. He never missed a Sunday lunch, believing that gathering around a table with his family was exactly where he was meant to be. He was the steady heartbeat of the home for Dian, his wife of 56 years, a constant source of advice and support for his son, Lawrence, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. His devotion extended far beyond his own doorstep as he never arrived for a visit without a trunk full of tools, instinctively ready to fix anything that needed mending before he even stepped through the door. To Iggy, a leaky faucet or a squeaky hinge wasn't just a task; it was an opportunity to care for the people he loved.
Iggy expressed his love not just through words, or through his actions-fixing a broken sink for a neighbor, repairing a computer for a family member, running errands for a friend in need -but also through the quiet act of listening and offering a word of advice. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines, helping with homework, leading a trip to the lake, doting on his grandchildren, or caring for an elderly loved one, he taught his family the meaning of unconditional love and that the greatest way to honor someone is simply to show up for them.
He is survived by his loving wife Dian Lovoy, his son Lawrence Lovoy, his grandchildren, Lillian and Ignatius Lovoy, and his sister Theresa Williams, who will forever cherish the memory of his steady hands and his even steadier heart.
Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Gardendale on March 11, 2026 at 10:30 am. The funeral mass will be conducted at 11:30 am with inurnment afterwards.
