Ilda Maybelle Coulman

COULMAN, Ilda Maybelle (Rush) – of Davison, MI, age 92, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026. A Funeral Service will be held 4 PM Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell officiating. Private entombment in Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 2-4 PM Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Allen Funeral Home.
Ilda was born in Datto, Arkansas on February 24, 1933, daughter of the late Claude and Dessie (Venable) Rush. During World War II, Ilda moved with her family to Flint, MI, where she would build a life filled with lasting friendships, love, and community involvement. She was a proud graduate of Flint Central High School, Class of 1951, and carried with her the values of hard work, loyalty, and kindness throughout her life. On May 31, 1952, Ilda married John J. Swartz. Together they shared years of love until his passing in 1964. Ilda later found love again and married Gordon Paul Coulman on April 15, 1967. Their marriage was one of companionship and shared adventures until Gordon preceded her in death on April 12, 2020. Ilda embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She found joy in bowling, crafting, and cooking for those she loved. She delighted in casino bus trips and cherished the excitement of traveling to Las Vegas. An adventurous spirit at heart, she enjoyed snowmobiling and treasured time spent at the family cottage in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Above all, Ilda valued family gatherings, where her warmth, laughter, and delicious meals brought everyone together. She was active in her community and proud to be a Member at Large of Beta Sigma Phi as well as a devoted member of the Davison Eagles Auxiliary, where she formed meaningful friendships and gave her time generously.
Ilda will be remembered for her loving heart, her resilience through life's losses, and her ability to find happiness in both everyday moments and grand adventures. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the love she shared, and the lives she touched so deeply.
Ilda is survived by her son, Rodney Swartz; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Dessie Rush; 2 husbands, John J. Swartz and Gordon Coulman; daughter, Pamela Suzanne (Michael) Swartz Shaw; 2 sisters, Claudeen Olivia (John) Rush Vincent and Oneida Joyce (Ken) Rush Moffit.
