Imogene Louise (Wolfe) Bauer passed away peacefully in her home on May 8, 2025, at the age of 95.
She was born to Henry and Edith Wolfe in Sugar City, CO on April 7,1930 and was the oldest of two children with younger brother Kenneth Stanley Wolfe (2023).
Imogene’s family moved to Platteville, CO early in her life, and then returned to Sugar City before she started school. She remained in Sugar City as a lifelong resident. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul Lutheran Church and was a faithful member until her passing. She graduated from Sugar City High School in 1948. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator. In 1949 she married Reuben Dean Bauer, and they started their life farming and had three children, Ronald, Dean and Henrietta.
Imogene loved her life on the farm where she spent summers gardening and canning. In 1976 they decided to retire from farming and build a home in town. Soon thereafter she took a part-time position working as Postmaster Relief at the Sugar City Post Office. She thoroughly enjoyed her Saturday mornings processing mail and interacting with town residents. She served as fill-in help for 30 years, finally retiring at the age of 80. Her memories of her postal work were very dear to her. In addition to this, one of her proudest accomplishments was joining with others in the community to write and publish a history book about Sugar City. On several occasions she was asked to share memories of her town with school classrooms, and she always jumped at the chance. This was, for her, a way of paying homage to the town and community she loved so much.
Imogene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother (Oma). She dedicated her whole heart to her family. She was known for always being in her kitchen and she delighted in nourishing those she loved through the meals she served. She took her deepest joy in simple pleasures. Family, community and faith were her bedrock and the fabric from which she wove her life.
Imogene was preceded in death by her husband Reuben, her parents, Henry & Edith; and her brother Kenneth. She is survived by her children, Ronald Bauer, Dean (Lisa), and Henrietta; grandchildren, Jacob (Reagan), Liam, Lukas, Jared, and Jayce (Hailey).
Visitation will be held Tuesday May 13, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sugar City. Interment to follow at Lake View Cemetery in Sugar City.
