Imogene Jackson, aged 89, passed away on September 19, 2024, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on December 29, 1934 to J.L. Carr and Terry Carr in Warren Arkansas. The family found Bradley County opportunities short and after a brief stay in Hot Springs, the family migrated north. World War ll was in full swing and the munition plants of Jacksonville Arkansas held much promise for the several mouths to feed. It was at the First Assembly of God church in Jacksonville that Imogene’s “Gene” mother struck up a church lady friendship with a devout Mrs. Opal Jackson. After the war both families settled in the area and planted roots. Whether a work of matchmaking or just luck the two women decided that two of their children should meet. From what has been told it was love at first sight. He was quoted as saying at the time that her beautiful dark eyes were like watermelon seeds. Not very romantic but it did the trick. William “Bill” and Imogene started a whirlwind romance and were married on October 1, 1955. This would be a union of 65 years until Bill’s death in 2020. Imogene spent most of her life as a stay-at-home mom. This was so true until watching her son Stanley learning to drive that she decided that didn’t look that hard. As a result, after convincing Bill of all the errands which could be off his plate as chauffeur, she and Stanley learned to drive together. Both earned a license on the first try. This was the fun and wonderful mother and person she was. Always up for a challenge. Her first actual job came after Bill’s 50-year retirement from Farrell and Schaer Blueprint where she would serve as one of the weekend staff at the North Little Rock visitors center. A position she would hold for 13 years. The story was as Bill was negotiating for the job with Marylou Davenport, he said the only way it would work was if Imogene was also hired. They were a team. The budget wouldn’t allow that, and as Bill got up to leave suddenly the budget was adjusted.
There is no person ever who has been more devoted to her husband and family. She will be sorely missed by all she touched.
