Inez Elizabeth Hughes

Inez Elizabeth Hughes, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at the age of 103 at Hammond Nursing Home. She was born on Saturday, November 18, 1916, in Slidell, Louisiana, to Frank and Victoria Helmers Ferrero. Inez was a resident of Westminster Apartments of Ponchatoula for 32 years. She was quite the accomplished artist who loved to paint. Inez enjoyed life and loved gardening, walking, cooking, reading and crocheting, but she especially loved spending time with her family. Inez is survived by her daughter, Patricia Sweeney, her grandchildren, Tonya Sweeney Ferguson and her husband William, Jr., Michael Sweeney III, Valarie Santana, Bridget Sweeney Bennett and her husband Hollis, Norma Hughes Baker and her husband Johnny, Sean Sweeney and his wife Staci and James Joseph Hughes III, her great grandchildren, William Ferguson III and his wife Amy, Christopher Ferguson and his wife Fanny, Jason Ferguson and his wife Lindsey, Rachelle Rayburn and her husband Scott, Ian Santana , Ron Gautreaux and his wife Jennifer, Meagan Marjorie and her husband Mark, Kyle Bennett, Skylar McCrea, Ashley Waltman and her husband Robert, Brooke Baker and Jamie and Abby Hughes and 16 great great grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews and close friends. Inez was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Victoria Helmers Ferrero, her husband, James Joseph Hughes, Sr., her son, James Joseph Hughes, Jr., her son in law, Michael M. Sweeney, Jr. and 6 brothers and sisters. A Graveside Service was held at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula, on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 1:00 pm.
