Ressie Verline Hughes

Ressie Hughes, 56, of Athens, TN passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 23, 2025.

Preceded in death by mother, Elsie Sue Palmer.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Tim Hughes; father, Archie Palmer; daughters, Ava Nicole Hughes (Alexander Jackson), Brittany Hughes (Josh Terry), Melissa Hughes, Hannah (Sean) Kelleher; four granddaughters, Leigh Terry, Maddi Terry, Sydney Terry and Bellamy Terry; two brothers, Bobby Joe Palmer and Archie Wayne Palmer Jr (Bonnie); and many other loved family and friends.

Ressie's greatest calling in life was to be a mother and homemaker, a role she fulfilled with love and devotion. She cared for many beyond her own children, always offering kindness and guidance. A true homebody, she found joy in the comfort of her home and loved to spend her time reading. Ressie was generous, giving, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Ascension Life Church (935 Rocky Mt Rd, Athens, TN 37303) at 2:00pm with Brian Miller officiating the service. A Visitation will be held prior from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. After the Funeral Service, a Graveside Service will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
