Inez Marie Weist

Inez (Larson) Weist, age 98, of Golden Valley, MN, passed away April 16, 2025. Preceded in death by parents, sister, Barbara, husband, Darwin, and grandson, John. Inez was born in Pennock, MN on February 17, 1927, to Furmen and Opal Larson. Furmen was the manager of the Pennock Coop Creamery. Inez attended a two-room school, in Pennock, for her first eight years. She then traveled by bus to attend high school in Willmar where she graduated in 1945. She was a member of the National Honor Society.
She enrolled in the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis and graduated with a Registered Nurse degree in 1948. She married Darwin in 1949 and took a position in nursing at the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital for 2 years. In 1964 she took a position at Swedish Hospital where she became a nursing coordinator. Swedish Hospital merged with St. Barnabas Hospital and became the Metropolitan Medical Center. Later she took a part time position as a Community Health Nurse for the elderly.
Inez liked to sew and took it up as a hobby. She had a sewing room with 2 sewing machines and 2 sergers. One of her sewing machines was an embroidery machine that she used to embroider flowers and other patterns. She could design her own patterns and download designs from the computer. She also did hand embroidery, knitting and needlepointing. She did needlepoint, of custom designs on her dining room chairs and belonged to several sewing organizations.
Inez was a member of the Minneapolis Women's Club and enjoyed playing bridge and knitting and sewing items that the Club donated. She also enjoyed time at the "Lake Place" relaxing, entertaining and fishing. One could often find her in a deck chair at the end of the dock with a fishing pole, book and a cup of coffee.
Inez and Darwin traveled in a camping trailer with friends and on vacation trips. They traveled to all the continents. Their favorites were a safari to the African Serengeti plain and a trip to Alaska with their family. In her later years, Inez enjoyed playing dominos and cribbage with her family and friends.
Inez is survived by sons, Brian (Lynn) and Kevin (Jennifer) and daughter, Cindy; granddaughters, Sasha, Charissa, Alani, and Breona; 3 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral service, Saturday, April 26, 11 AM, at Washburn-McReavy Edina Funeral Chapel. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Internment and graveside service at Washburn-McReavy Dawn Valley Memorial Park (following the service). Memorials preferred to Ecumen Hospice.
