Mr. Ioannis Kontogiannis, age 81, formerly of Lynn, died on Thursday, February 22nd at the Bear Mountain Nursing Home in Reading.
Born in Marathon, Greece and a resident of Lynn for over 56 years, Mr. Kontogiannis was the son of the late George and Zaharula Kontogiannis. Ioannis formerly served in the Greek Army. He was a former painter and also did some light carpentry. He was also a former boxer and enjoyed gardening, soccer, and watching hockey (especially the Bruins). Ioannis also loved dancing.
Mr. Kontogiannis is survived by his son, George Kontogiannis and his wife LeAnn (Joyce) of Saugus; his daughter, Joy Kontogiannis of Amesbury; four grandchildren, Michael Puopolo, Christopher Coyne, Jr., Nicolas Kontogiannis and Andrew Kontogiannis; two great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ioannis's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts at alz.org/manh.
SERVICE INFORMATION
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., SAUGUS on Tuesday from 4 – 7 p.m. A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral liturgy at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church 54 S. Common St., Lynn at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.
