Iona Jackson Obituary

Iona Felecia Jackson , of Gulf Breeze, Florida died on February 17, 2023. Born in St Ann, Jamaica, May 25, 1932, the seventh child of eleven children born to the late Cephus and Gertrude Clarke.

Iona became an elementary school teacher in Jamaica before she moved to the United States in 1972 seeking new opportunities. Migrating to Hartford Connecticut, she worked as a teller at Mechanics Savings Bank for many years until her retirement to care for her ailing husband.

Iona loved to go for walks, play dominoes, sing in her church choir, stay active at her senior center where she took part in sewing, aerobics, choir and computer classes. She loved to spend time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, three brothers, her husband Harold George Jackson and her first grandchild, Dominque A Lindo. She is survived by her sister Merriam Greaves of England, daughter, Denise A Lindo, son-in-love, Hugh E Lindo, two grandsons, Nathaniel X Lindo, Hugh E Lindo II, two great granddaughters Kaydence A Lindo, Lennon Z Lindo, five stepchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is remembered for her sense of humor, beautiful smile, her physical strength and (aka) her Tina Turner legs.

Celebration of her life in Florida will be held at East Bay Church, 5649 East Bay Blvd, Gulf Breeze, Fl 32563 at 3:30 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2023 with a viewing from 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm.

The final Celebration of Life Service will be held at The Lodge Community Chapel 130 Deerfield Rd, Windsor, CT 06095 at 10:00 am on Saturday. March 11, 2023 with a viewing from 9:00 am -10:00 am.

Interment will be held at Mt. St Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
