Irene Ganssle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. - Pearl River on Feb. 5, 2024.
Irene Frances (Mullarkey) Ganssle, 95, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones in Nanuet, New York, on February 1, 2024. Born in Brooklyn in 1929 to Molly and PJ Mullarkey, she never tired of sharing stories of her enchanted youth with her adored sisters and brother in the New York of old. Values instilled in her by her Irish clan set the stage for her life of virtue and selflessness. She raised her nine children in that atmosphere with her lifelong love, George Ganssle, whom she dearly missed since his passing in 2005. She devoted her life to her family and God and her unwavering faith in Him as a devout Catholic guided her through the trials and joys of life here on earth. Her family will forever cherish the wisdom she shared, the integrity she demonstrated and the utmost acceptance she offered to one and all. She began each morning in prayer, watched Mass daily (live from Brooklyn!), prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy @ 3pm and ended each night with fervent gratitude for home and hearth. Peppered between daily devotions, however, Irene could be found analyzing the latest pole positions at Belmont or Aqueduct, keeping sharp with Jeopardy and refreshing her keen movie knowledge with Turner Classic Movies @ 8. She was the loving mother to Irene (Jim) Campbell, George (Nicole) Ganssle, Mary (Bill) Patten, John (Jamie) Ganssle, Frances Rossi, Grace Ganssle, Mary Monica (Bryan) Perez. Grandmother to Cynthia, Matthew, Molly, George, Renee, Christopher, Danielle, Anthony, Nina, Paul, Andrew, Luke, Caroline and Benjamin. Great grandmother to Jack, Jimmy, Louie, Sam, Andy, Owen, Max, Mark, Wini and Rhea. Irene was predeceased by her much-loved children, Joseph and Rosemary Ganssle and her cherished grandchildren Sara Rose Ganssle and Joseph Campbell. As a highly esteemed aunt, Godmother, friend and neighbor, she consistently provided boundless love and guidance to those around her. She felt especially blessed to have her forever in-laws always near and dear: Herbie and Bobby Higgins, Cecelia Friend, Irene Bodnar Ganssle and Pat Meehan. Irene was a steadfast champion of dignity for all lives. She proudly defended the right to life for all human beings, both born and unborn, extending her advocacy to the youngest, the weakest, the infirmed. In her, the vulnerable found a fierce and loyal protector. A longtime parishioner of St. Anthony's in Nanuet, Irene's funeral will be held Friday, February 9th at 11:30 am. Burial will immediately follow. Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the offering of Masses for the repose of the souls of George and Irene Ganssle would be appreciated. Pray for Peace on Earth. Pray the Rosary. Love One Another.

My dear long time friends. We haven't seen each other for so long, but I never forgot all of the family. Especially your folks who always opened the door and shared their food with me. So sorry to hear of your lose. God bless her and all of you.
