Irene was born the 25th of June 1931 in Fayetteville, GA, to the late Emmitt Merritt and Rosetta Scott Dixon. Irene departed her earthly life of 93 wonderful years and entered her eternal life on the 4th of July 2024. What a blessing !!!
At an early age, she committed her life to God and joined Miller Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.W. Wise. She retired from Bonterra Nursing Home. During her 32 years at Bonterra, she served as a nursing assistant
On the 3rd of December 1955, she joined union with the late Leroy Goodwin. In this union they welcome five children.
Irene was a ray of sunshine to everyone she came in contact with. She enjoyed fill-in puzzles and reading her Bible. She could pinpoint scriptures from the Bible fitting to any situation. She was very wise and strong minded. Any questions about the past, she had an answer to. Her memory was sharp as a tack. Irene loved her family and spending time with them. If you knew Irene, you know she never turned anyone away, no matter their past, their situation, or who you were, her arms were always open.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; parents, Emmitt and Rosetta; four daughters, Mamie Robinson, Patricia Williams, Bobbie and Cheryl Goodwin; son, Frederick Goodwin "Toe-man" and granddaughter, Myosha.
Her memories will be honored and cherished by one daughter, Rita (William) Perdue; sister, Josephine Allen; brother-in-law, Lee Astin; sister-in-law, Gail (John) Love and Virginia Coleman; eight grandchildren, Tony, Quonsetta (Spoon), LaKesha (Lucy) Douglas, Towanna, Latosha, Shawn and Shana; 33 great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren; dear family and friends, Tony (Queen) Perdue, Minnie Perdue, Mary Dixon, Stanley Barnes and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
