Mrs. Irene Wooten Hampton, 102, of Franklin, NC, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 25, 2026. Irene was born April 29, 1924 in Macon County, to the late Charlie Wooten and Mary Magdalene Gibson Wooten.
Mrs. Hampton lived a full wonderful life. She loved her sisters and always enjoyed being with them. She loved flowers and a pretty yard. She loved to get out and ride and see all the wonderful things God created. She had a lot of wonderful friendships, was a wonderful cook and loved to go shopping. Her greatest love was reading her Bible and the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of Mashburn Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Mike Hampton and his wife, Lisa.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, James "Dewey" Hampton; her five sisters, Carrie Heaton, Mary Bell Angel, Oma Downs, Velma Estes, Leona Gray; and her three brothers, Lloyd Wooten, Roy Wooten, and Tom Wooten.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in the Grant Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Stewart, Rev. Trevor Rogers, and Rev. Owen Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Johnny Downs, Barry Downs, Eddie Downs, Evan Brown, Trevor Rogers, and Owen Brooks.
