Irene Strickland Johnson

Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Irene Strickland Johnson, age 88, of Black Creek Road died Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. Graveside Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Thursday, August 1, 2024 in the Four Oaks City Cemetery in Four Oaks. Rev. Randy Beasley will officiate. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. 

Irene was born on January 19, 1936 in Cumberland County to the late William David and Kathleen Holmes Strickland. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Becky Norris McGee; a son, Daniel Raeford Norris; and several sisters and brothers. Irene was a retired registered nurse for 39 years working at Duke Medical Center, Rex Healthcare, and UNC Johnston Health. She was the matriarch and pillar of strength for her entire family and was also willing to lend a helping hand. Irene enjoyed a good book and loved her pet companion, Bella, although, getting her nails done and shopping was by far her favorite thing to do. She also loved traveling to the beach, and had planned to spend the rest of her retirement at White Lake. 

Surviving are her son, Ricky Norris of Godwin; grandchildren, Lara Massengill of West Hollywood, California, Alfred Coats of Rosewood, Sasha Beasley and husband, Michael of Four Oaks, Angela Coats of Four Oaks, Austin Norris of Godwin; great-grandchildren, Vanessa Coats, Sarah Lynn Coats, Michaela Beasley, Waylon Coats, Daniel Coats, Rhiannon Coats, and Cristian Coats; brother, John Strickland of Four Oaks; several nieces and nephews.
