Irene C. Johnson, 78, of East Falmouth, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Frederick Johnson.
Irene was filled with joy. She had fun. She lived through many seasons in the sun. Irene Irma Carl was born on August 23rd, 1947, the fifth daughter (always the baby) and the last to Alfred and Irma (Sontag) Carl.
Her Grammy Carl raised her 'til she was 7 and her mom passed when she was 11. It was left up to her 4 sisters and a very tolerant Daddy to take over. She didn't always make it easy, but it was never boring. And it made for great stories that always ended with laughter. She was, well, "Inclined to mischief". That was one of her greatest qualities.
Graduated Clinton High in 1965 on the honor society (she used to be smart) and went on her way to nursing school at Worcester Hahnemann Hospital. In 1968, she married, divorced and decided to give another guy a try in 1987.
During her employment she worked in various fields - from the cradle to the grave. Maternity, nursery, pediatrics, podiatry, medical surgeon, Alzheimer's. But more than anything else, she put her family and friends first with beaming sunshine, laughter, and kindness. She predeceased 2 sisters, Miriam, and Nancy, three brother in laws, and 2 nephews along with her parents.
She is survived by her husband Frederick, her sons Clint and Ryan, daughter in laws Kelsey and Leah, as well as her two grandchildren, Sawyer and Penny She was grateful to live near the sea. Preferred to be surrounded by the woods and flowers. Always wanted to be at her friends and family's side. She saw much of the world and passed on from this life with unparalleled wisdom. Even with the wisdom of an obituary, she would say, "This was not cheap!"
A private burial will be held at Church of the Messiah Cemetery in Woods Hole. A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church 485 Brick Kiln Rd. Falmouth, Ma on Saturday November 1, 2025 at 11:00am followed by a reception at the Church Hall.
