Irene Patricia (Jochym) Laskowski, 96, formerly of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Suffield House Healthcare Center. She was born in Holyoke on March 13, 1930, the daughter of John and Petronela (Grzesik) Jochym. A 1947 graduate of Holyoke High School, she was employed as a Fabricator with Acme Chain for many years. She married the love of her life, Emil Laskowski, in 1948, and together they shared 56 years of marriage. Irene's Catholic faith was a great comfort to her. In her younger years she was very much involved with the former Mater Dolorosa Parish in Holyoke, having been a member of its St. Anne's Society. Irene was a wonderful cook and loved both a good cup of coffee and a joyous family gathering. She had a strong work ethic throughout her life and would do anything for her children. Irene enjoyed bingo and knitting, and was well-known for her thrifty habits, always finding a way to repurpose items. She was especially fond of playful and witty banter between loving family and those who knew her well. Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Emil, and her three siblings, Edward Jochym, Genevive "Jenny" Pasek and Patricia "Patsy" Mihalak. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Timothy (Janice) Laskowski of Portland, CT and Stephen (Sandra) Laskowski of Agawam, MA. She leaves seven grandchildren: Craig (Melanie) Laskowski, Kenneth (Melissa) Laskowski, Angelique Holland, Gregory (Sondra) Laskowski; Emil, Raymond and Carly Laskowski, as well as her nine great grandchildren: Chase, Hudson, Olivia, Charles, Jack, Eleanor and Greyson Laskowski, Kayla and Jackson Holland, and several loving nieces and nephews. All are invited to meet for a period of visitation on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 9:00 to10:00 a.m. at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke; followed by an 11:00 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Cross Church, Holy Cross Ave., Holyoke, MA. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley. Memorial donations may be made in Irene's memory to Mater Dolorosa Catholic School, 25 Maple Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
