Irene Mitchell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - South Jordan on Mar. 26, 2024.
Irene Hulse Mitchell passed quietly on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Legacy House Assisted Living in South Jordan, Utah. Irene was born to Warren and Blanche Hulse in Magna, Utah on June 2, 1937. She had a twin sister, Ilene, and were nothing alike, but were best friends throughout life. Irene was Cyprus High School graduate, Class of 1955.
Through Ilene, she met Airforce Sargeant Theodore "Ted" Mitchell. They married January 13, 1969 at the Fort Douglas chapel. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple, August 13, 1979. Ted and Irene were inseparable. They were married until his death on August 16, 2000.
Irene worked for the State of Utah as a Secretary in various departments. Including at the Utah State Capital where politicians would come to her office to talk. Including Governors. She was promoted to an Executive Secretary working for the Director of Finance until her retirement. Irene was very intelligent, intuitive, and business savvy. After retirement, she became a successful realtor. In 1987, she started her own real estate company IHM Realtors (Integrity*Honesty*Maturity). She served on the Board of Directors for Nature All Nutritional Supplements.
Irene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held various positions, including a Gospel Doctrine Sunday School Teacher, where she taught the majority of her life. One year, she and Ted were called one year to build their stake float for the 24th of July Parade. Irene always believed more was better. In her style, she had so many float riders that the steel frame broke at the end of the route.
After Ted's death, Irene joined Curves where she went every morning. The Holladay Utah Curves location made her the Social Chairman and honored visiting more than 3,000 times.
She loved history, her country, teddy bears, and red roses. An American Flag was always flying, and had a collection of approximately 400 teddy bear items. Irene took pride in her rose bushes with the large flowers.
Her family and friends will miss her, but know she is finally happy and free from her aliments. Irene is survived by her niece Cherie Anderson Freestone (Wade), nephew Brent Anderson, great-niece Claire Freestone, great-step nephew Christopher Freestone, and brother-in-law Dale Anderson. She is preceded in death by her husband Theodore "Ted" Mitchell, twin sister Ilene Hulse Anderson, and parents Warren and Blanche Hulse.
Respecting her request, a graveside service will be held at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek, Utah, on Wednesday, March 27th at noon.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers or plants to the funeral home or family, please buy a rose bush to plant, or purchase yourself a dozen red roses in her memory.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

My first memory of Aunt Irene was when I met her face to face in SLC, UT at Trevie Towers up from Temple Square. She made sure I had all of my missionary books in preparation for my mission to Venezuela. After my mission, Uncle Ted and her would have me over to their home to hang out with them for the weekend. She was always so kind to me!! I will miss you Aunt Irene!! RIP your great nephew, Don Ed Shell

Thank you for the book "Rags to Riches" . It looks like a real labor of love.

I work at the facility where Irene lived and whenever I would bring her food she would always make me feel special. She always called me smart, kind, patient, or beautiful and it always made me smile. I only knew her for a very short time but I miss her already. I send my deepest condolences to her family.
