Jeffrey Stephenson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - Murray on Feb. 4, 2026.
Jeffrey W Stephenson, 64, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Murray, Utah. Jeff was

born on December 12, 1961, in Richfield, Utah, and joined the family of Wallace and

Cleo (Peterson) Stephenson.

The family moved to Murray, Utah when Jeff was 10 years old, where he made his

home for the remainder of his life. In his younger years, Jeff enjoyed swimming and

diving; competing in junior high and high school. He also had a competitive spirit and a

keen mind-especially evident in games. Few, if any, could defeat him at backgammon.

Jeff's memory was truly remarkable; he had an almost uncanny ability to recall details,

facts, and events long after others had forgotten them.

Jeff graduated from Murray High School in 1981. Shortly thereafter, he began his career

with the Utah Department of Transportation as a maintenance technician. Jeff dedicated

40 years of service to the State of Utah, retiring in October of 2022. His loyalty and

consistency were hallmarks of his professional life.

Jeff found his greatest joy in simple pleasures. His favorite place was the family cabin in

Fishlake, where he enjoyed soaking in the familiar comforts he loved. He was an avid

sports fan, with a particular passion for football, NASCAR, and basketball, and he

remained a die-hard Denver Broncos fan throughout his life. His extraordinary memory

shone brightest when recalling player stats, team records, and games from years

past-often with impressive accuracy.

Above all, Jeff exemplified contentment with life's simple things. He didn't seek

extravagance, but instead found happiness in routine, familiarity, and the interests he

loved most.

Jeff is survived by his sister, Lee Ann Winters, and his three nephews, Shane, Scott,

and Ryan Beeson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Cleo

Stephenson.

Jeff will be interred at the Murray City Cemetery. A celebratory luncheon, in his honor,

will be held at 1pm on Saturday February 14th at the Clubhouse at Three Fountains of

Cottonwood (5050 S Three Fountains Cir, Murray, UT).
