Irene Jeannine Whitcomb, age 94, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away on September 9, 2024, at Roaring River and Rehabilitation in Cassville. Mrs. Whitcomb, daughter of Uri S. and Ruth E. Knowlton, was born on January 5, 1930, in Orrville, Ohio. She grew up in Wellington; her family moved to Shreve, Ohio, where she graduated high school in 1946. Following her high school graduation, she moved to San Bernardino, California, and worked at the Patton State Hospital where she became secretary to the hospital superintendent and medical director. She and Chuck moved to Barry County in 1982. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cassville.
Mrs. Whitcomb married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Whitcomb on February 21, 1948, in Las Vegas, Nevada; he survives.
Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Justin C. Whitcomb, Adam J. Whitcomb, Heather R. Whitcomb, Kristi M. Whitcomb, Megan J. Whitcomb, and Cali A. Whitcomb. Irene and her husband became custodial parents of their two granddaughters Heather and Kristi in 1993, and always considered them to be their daughters.
Irene is preceded in death by two sons David Charles and Kevin Jon Whitcomb.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the White Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville, on Friday, September 13, 2024.
Arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home & Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
