Iris Byrd Obituary
She is preceded in death by her parents, Aulman and Ruby Watford, her sister, Nellie Louise Watford Davis, and her brother, Jackie (Jack) Carl Watford.
Iris is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Tommy Ray Byrd. Together, they built a lifetime of memories, laughter, and steadfast partnership. They raised two devoted daughters who were the pride of Iris' life.
She is survived by her daughter Tina and her husband Greg Gibson, and their children Katlyn and Ray, and by her daughter Heather and her husband Jeremy Middleton, and their children Mary Kathryn and Jaxdon; sisters, Audrey Flores, Edna Ziehl, Mavis Padgett, Sherry Cornelson; brother, James Watford and sister-in-law, Teresa Watford.
Iris cherished each of her grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, nurturing their dreams, and filling their lives with warmth and encouragement. Her family was truly her heart.
For more than 25 years, Iris served and managed the Friends of the Library in Troy, AL, where she became a familiar and beloved presence. Her dedication enriched the community, expanded opportunities for readers of all ages, and supported the local library's mission. She approached her work with kindness, purpose, and a genuine belief in the power of learning.
Iris will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering love, and quiet strength, which touched everyone who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the community she supported, and the countless lives she brightened simply by being herself.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that her love endures in the memories they share and the values she instilled.
Pallbearers will be Greg Gibson, Ray Gibson, Jeremy Middleton, Jaxdon Middleton, Justin Middleton, and Buck Byrd.

Instead of flowers, Iris' wish was for donations to be sent to the Troy Friends of the Library.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Dillard Funeral Home, Troy, AL with the Reverend Jerry Wilkes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00, with the funeral to follow. Interment will follow in Darien Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.
