Iris Gratts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woody Home for Services on Dec. 10, 2024.
Iris Adrienne Gratts of Willingboro, NJ entered peacefully into rest on November 28, 2024, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. She was born April 25, 1966 in Newark, NJ to the parents Emma and Aldrin Gratts.
Iris graduated from East Orange High School in 1984 where she was a co-captain of the E.O.H.S. Panther Twirling Squad and a member of her high school concert band. She attended Essex County College.
Iris worked at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield for the past 30 years in several roles and was currently a member of the Blue Card Host Correspondence Team.
Iris was a lover of music, loved to dance, and loved working out at the gym and enjoyed the camaraderie of her Zumba classmates. As an amateur horticulturist she absolutely relished the meditative joy of nurturing her plants and flowers. She was a true lover of animals who cherished her pets (cats and turtles). She was a prideful high heel wearing Person, New York Giants fan, an avid Walmart shopper and always the hunt for anything the color purple.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Riley and Norvell Gregg and Lawson and Idell Gratts.
Iris leaves her parents Aldrin and Emma Gratts of West Orange, NJ, two brothers Paul Harris and
wife Loretta of West Orange, NJ and Aldrin K. Gratts of Atco, NJ, one sister Rosalind L. Gratts of West Orange, NJ, fiancé James Vincent Speller of Willingboro, NJ, three nephews: Paul H. Skinner, Aldrin T. Gratts and Xavier H. Harris. Iris also leaves two step children to whom she was a mother figure, Michael McClendon and Shariek Brailsford and two god children Chantee Platts and Terrence Matthews. She leaves to cherish her memory many other relatives and friends.
She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Her memories will continue to live in our hearts.
