Iris Lathan Mason "Okie" of Lake Wylie

Mrs. Mason, 88, went home to be with our Lord on December 11, 2025. Okie was born on

May 2, 1937, in Belmont, NC, to the late Clarence and Ida Lathan. She was preceded in

death by her husband of 61 years, William "Bill" Mason; her brothers, Marion Lathan and

Arnold Lathan; and her sister, Murriel Jenkins.

Okie is survived by her son, Greg Mason (Patrice); her grandchildren, Maria Dahl (Jeremiah),

Christina Swartz (Tim), and David Mason; and her great-granddaughter, Ophelia Dahl.

Okie was a longtime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and was a current member of

Christ the King Church. She always enjoyed the many Sundays she spent caring for young

children at Woodlawn. At Christ the King, she loved her Bible study group as well as serving

coffee in the lobby.

Okie worked as a reservations agent for Southern Airways, National Airlines, and Eastern

Airlines. After the closure of Eastern Airlines in 1991 and her subsequent retirement, she

remained busy with several part-time jobs for many years. Her final employer was the

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, where she served in the after-school program for

more than 15 years. She loved working with the children and helping them with their

homework each day.

A memorial service and celebration of Okie's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday,

December 29, 2025, at Christ the King Church, 13501 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC, 28278.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
