Iris S. Fennell Owens passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at VIA Hospice of Laurens County.

She was born on April 27, 1932, in Clinton, South Carolina to A.M. Shumake, Sr. and Jessie Shumake. Prior to her recent illness, Iris lived in Lyman, South Carolina for the last forty-seven years with her husband, Alton A. Owens. She and Al were members of Lyman Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, Alton Owens, Iris is survived by her children; Steve Fennell (Julia), Debbie Atkins (Tim), and Sheila Fulbright (Allen), and grandchildren, Owen Fulbright, Trace Fulbright, and Marlee Atkins.

She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Bill Fennell; her grandson, Todd Fennell; sisters, Myrtle Satterfield, Sybil Barnes, Louise MacDonald, and Woodie Davis; and her brother, A.M. Shumake, Jr.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the Rosemont Cemetery at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Leland Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff of Hospice at VIA Health Partners in Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 123 W Antrim Dr, Greenville, SC 29607.
