Irma Booker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services - Hartford on Mar. 3, 2026.
Irma "Jean" Booker 76, of East Hartford, Connecticut, was born on February 7, 1950, in Union, South Carolina, to the late William and Elizabeth (Rice) Booker. From an early age, Jean gave her life to the Lord at Beatty Chapel AME Zion Church in Union, South Carolina. Her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life and was the foundation of who she was.

In 1974, Jean moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where she built a life filled with hard work, love, and service. She worked for Pratt & Whitney for 18 years and the state of Connecticut for 16 years as a dedicated employee before retiring in 2015. No matter where life took her, Jean stayed grounded in her faith and continued her spiritual journey as a devoted member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Windsor, Connecticut.

On Friday, February 13, 2026, Jean peacefully entered eternal rest at Trinity Health Hospital (St. Francis Hospital). She was surrounded by love and comfort from her beloved daughter Tina, sister-in-law Deborah and her devoted partner of more than 20 years, Sherwood Jarrett.

Family meant everything to Jean. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with her grandchildren-loving them, supporting them, and cheering them on. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, and sewing. One of her favorite joys was traveling with her daughter and grandchildren, whether by car, plane, or cruise ship, creating memories that will be treasured forever. She found joy in the simple moments of everyday life. Jean had a giving spirit and a heart as big as her smile. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Jean leaves behind a legacy of love through her cherished family. She will forever live in the hearts of her daughter, Tina (Alvin) Coleman-Waugh; her two grandsons, Antoine Leon Coleman and Aulijah Xavier Waugh and two granddaughters, Aulina Monet and Auliyah Waugh; and her precious great-granddaughter, Jamiah Waugh, who brought her immense joy. Her siblings: her brothers, William E. Booker of Houston, Texas; Lawrence (Delores) Booker of Union, South Carolina; and John (Danielle) Booker of Topeka, Kansas; and her sisters, Elizabeth Means, Irene Booker (twin sister), Cathy Newton, Sherrie Bates, and Peggy Booker, all of Union, South Carolina. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Deborah Booker of Windsor, Connecticut, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed to know her.

Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Booker, and her sons, Corey Booker and Robert Coleman, whom she carried in her heart always. Her parents; her brothers, James Booker; Perry L Booker Sr and her sisters, Dorothy Jean Young, Truelora "Lola" Booker Gory, and Mary Booker Eisen.

Jean Booker will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her kindness, her generosity, and the deep love she had for her family. Her presence will be missed beyond words, but her spirit will live on through the many lives she touched and the love she shared so freely.
