“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irma Cortez on October 25, 2024, at the age of 70. Irma passed away peacefully at her home in Sacramento, CA, with family by her side.
Born in Balanga, Bataan, Philippines, Irma was the youngest of eight siblings. She graduated from the Marian School of Nursing in 1976 and later moved to Chicago in 1979 with her husband, Edgar, to begin their family. Irma dedicated over 40 years to her nursing career, working at Illinois Masonic Medical Center and, later, at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where she was known for her warmth, compassion, and commitment to her patients and colleagues.
Irma’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted wife to Edgar, a loving mother to Dennis, John, and Melissa, and a proud grandmother to three grandchildren. She was known for her generous hospitality, especially during holiday gatherings, and her home was always open to loved ones.
In retirement, Irma enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with her grandchildren, a role she cherished deeply. Her kindness, generosity, and selflessness touched everyone who knew her, and her legacy will live on through her family.
Visitation Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m at East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park. Funeral mass Friday, November 8th at St. Joseph Parish. Following these services, she will be laid to rest in the Philippines, where additional services and burial will take place.”
