Irma Theresa "Canalia" Thomas

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Irma Theresa (Canalia) Thomas went in peace to her heavenly home on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Ironwood, on March 24, 1925.

During her 100 years, Irma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and more, who always put her family first. She found true happiness in spending time with her family, sharing laughter and creating cherished memories. Her passion for cooking was at the heart of family gatherings, and she delighted in preparing delicious meals for everyone. Irma also loved visiting casinos, wearing bling and even drove for the first time on her centennial birthday.

Irma's most treasured gift was her family. She was one of five children. She married Jack Thomas in 1947. They had a large family: Darlene (Gary) Couture, Gail (Robert) DuCharme, Gloria, Charles (Donna), William (Patricia) and Marlene (Scott) Anderson. Irma was the matriarch of six children (five spouses), 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren (one on the way) and two great-great-grandchildren. Her family of 54 loved her and will miss her dearly.

Irma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack, (1989); her parents, John and Theresa Canalia; her siblings, Katherine, Leno, Louis and Ida; two sons-in-law, Gary Couture and Robert DuCharme; and a granddaughter, Dawn DuCharme.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. A private celebration of life will be held for the family at a later date.
