Irma Vance Obituary

Irma M. Vance died peacefully at her home in Sun City, AZ on April 12, 2023.
Born March 17, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of J. Earl and Virdie B. Marken Kneeland. On May 7, 1950, she married Randall S. Vance of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. They were married in Marshalltown, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2008.
They lived in Marshalltown until March of 1966, when they moved to Burlington, Iowa.
Mrs. Vance graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1947.
While in Marshalltown, she worked at Fidelity Savings Bank and at Younkers. After moving to Burlington, she worked as clerk in the Des Moines County Treasurer's Office for several years, and then was elected to serve as a member of the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors in 1980. She served until 1985 and is the only female member to serve on that Board to this date. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Ruth Circle. She served on the Administrative Board of that Church and was a member of the choir and UMW. She was a member and past president of Stars and Stripes Chapter NSDAR and PEO Chapter P. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and other card games, and traveling. She and her husband wintered in Florida, and then in Arizona for many years. She was interested in family history and genealogy.
Survivors include two sons, Michael C. Vance (Bonnie) of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Russell W. Vance (Kim) of Glendale, Arizona, and one daughter, Karen J. Ratterman (Dale) of Epworth, Iowa, six grandchildren, Thomas (Morgan) Vance, Joseph Ratterman, Patrick (Karen) Vance, Derek Vance, Elizabeth Ratterman, Danielle (Eric) Gagnier two step grandchildren Marc (Jessica) Steinberg and Amy (Adam) Early and five great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Kieran, Adrian, Asher, and Sailor and one step great granddaughter Marlow, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, May 5, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mrs. Vance will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, AZ, Willowbrook United Methodist Church, Sun City, AZ, and First United Methodist Church, Burlington Iowa.
