Irmgard "Irma" Antonie Stürm Grigg, 97, widow of Joseph E. Grigg, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at her home.
Born February 26, 1926, in Munich, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Georg Stürm and the late Paula Lindacher Stürm. She was an active member of Crosswell Baptist Church. She lived her youth in Munich prior to and into the World War II days. As a youth she enjoyed swimming, biking, mountain climbing, and hiking with friends on a regular basis. After WWII, she met and married SSgt Joseph E. Grigg on September 1, 1946, at U.S. Army Headquarters in Munich. His military service carried them across the globe as they grew their family, finally settling in Sumter in 1969.
Survivors include five children, Evelyn Powell (Jim) of Florence, Barbara Barnes (Mike) of Charlotte, Kenneth Grigg (Marina) of Conway, Steven Grigg and Susan Oldhouser both of Sumter; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Alex Oldhouser; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Charles Owens. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
