Irvin Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joe Morris & Son Funeral Home on Dec. 28, 2025.
Irvin Jerome Williams was born on October 1, 1945, in Flint, Michigan, the second child of Bernard Williams and Thelma Jarrett Williams. He was the younger brother of Bernard Jr. and the older brother of Felicia. As the middle child, Irvin naturally became the family's balance-a negotiator, counselor, and steady presence. Five years younger than Bernard Jr., he was affectionately nicknamed "Shorty" by his uncles until high school, when he grew taller than all of them, prompting their joyful declaration, "Shorty ain't short no more!"
Irvin graduated from Flint Northern High School, and-like many who grew up in Flint-worked briefly in the factory. Raised in a family that deeply valued education, he soon chose to pursue further studies, enrolling at the University of Michigan. He continued his academic journey, earning a master's degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cincinnati. His first post-graduate position was as an assistant professor at Florida State University. Recognizing that his true calling was working directly with those in need, Irvin transitioned into clinical practice, where he found deep purpose and fulfillment. He worked in Tallahassee, St. Croix, and completed his professional career as Director of Specialty Programs at both Lakeview Center, Inc. and Baptist Health Care in Pensacola.
Irvin began the adventure of fatherhood in 1966 with the adoption of his daughter, Juana Williams. In 1979, he married Sheri Williams, and they welcomed their daughter, Ishiah in 1984.
Music was a lifelong joy for Irvin-playing the saxophone as a child, singing in choirs, and listening to mellow jazz from sunup to sundown. He enjoyed playing tennis, and was well known for cooking exceptional barbecue, a gift he generously shared with family and friends.
Known for his calm demeanor, quick wit, and warm smile, Irvin was deeply respected and loved by his patients, colleagues, coworkers, and friends. In keeping with a long-standing family tradition, he served faithfully in every church he attended, always willing to help wherever needed and leaving a lasting impact on each community he touched.
Irvin is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sheri Williams; daughter, Ishiah Williams; sister, Felicia Williams Cosey (Tyrone); grandchildren Ashlee Williams, Courtney Hargrays, Izharian (Zay) Young and Isaiah Law; sister-in-law Clainetta Jefferson (Aaron); aunt Oretha Cayton; uncle Wilbert Jarrett (Cynthia); nieces Michelle Lee (Anthony), Karina Seaton, Moshae Ivory; nephews Michael Williams, Dante Williams (Sherise), Carlos Seaton; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and special friends Rudolph Wheaton, Renea Brown, and Joanne Royston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Thelma Williams; his brother, Bernard Williams Jr.; sister Rozella Jones and his daughter, Juana Williams.
Irvin's life was a gift of love, laughter, and service. His legacy continues to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
