Irving was a truly cool and kind guy. He was easy-going especially since I was new to the Battlion back in 03. He got me squared away since everyone else was on leave since we were deploying to Afghanistan. I remember him driving me around Fort Drum in his Durango so I could get familiarize. I also remember meeting his wife at her job and telling her, messing around, that hes my son since he was taking care of me. My parents found pictures that I had left since I moved out years 11 years ago and found this one in the stack and had to post it. Miss you bro. May you rest in peace.

You were an amazing being. I miss you so much. The thought of you alone makes an impact, imagine your presence. I have so many good memories of you, and I think of you daily. I cant believe I will never ever see you again, but your energy is real, and at least, we have that. I love you cuz! Can't wait to see you. I really miss you and I cant explain this cold world we live in, but your energy alone keeps me wanting to move forward and live life. Its heartbreaking...I love you forever and beyond....

Your memories are still with us. This day it is so hard of me to think that you have be gone for 3 years. Irving so many things were left unsaid, if we can only go back in time and treasure each moment we had with each other. I still look for a understanding to all this but can't find the answer. The kids and I treasure you so much, and carry you with us always we love and miss you.

In Memory of Irving ~ ( Debra Estep )
July 12, 2008
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Irving, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I took my kids bowling, and all I thought of was you and Susan. The last time I bowled was with you both and your friends, when you took me under your wings because Tony wasn't home.
I never had the right words Susan, thats why I never wrote. I can't say my heart understands because I know it can't. Just know that I will always be here if every you need me. We were close friends once and distance took it's toll but I am still around anytime you need someone.
Give love to your entire family for me. And I know he is still looking over you all, he wasn't the kind of man to leave you on your own. He will always be a part of you all and always be there, probably riding a 4 wheeler in the park, but there none the less.
I am sorry, it has taken this long but what do you say to someone who's world has fallen around them?
God Bless you all, and Thank You Irving for being a friend, a smile, and a Hero.

Susan works for my husband here in Fairbanks and I only met Irving once, at the company Christmas party, before he was deployed. Irving was buried here in Fairbanks, which was his wish, and Susan bought a house here as well. I've gotten to know Susan better over the past couple of years and admire her strength and commitment to raising their children, Stacy and Christian.
Susan, rarely a day goes by that I don't think of you and Irving.
God Bless you!

My name is Alvin Naterpaul, Irving and I are second cousins. I had not seen Irving for many years. My last memories of him were when we were teenagers hanging out by Auntie Carmens house. Like myself, Irving was a quiet person but when around family was fun to be around. I did not know he was in the Army until I got the call that he gave his life to his country. I would like his wife Susan and kids to know that even though I have never met you. Your Husband and Father is a Hero and someone I look up to. He has shown the courage and honor that most of us lack. I enclose my email address and offer any assistance that I can possibly be.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Irving, I think of you everyday. Every morning when I watch CNN and I hear that another HERO was taken from us, my heart skips a beat. I think of their families and I think of you. I have so many regrets, so many phone calls I didn't make and things I never said. And, now your gone and its too late to go back in time. It is true that you were taken from us too soon, and I have many memories most of them good. One day they will give me comfort, but for now they only remind me of what we have lost.

Irving,
As I sit wondering what to say or write I am at a loss for words. IMAGINE THAT! I have tried to ignore your death as much as possible. However I have not had much luck in doing that. I was so much looking forword to reuniting with Jeff and YOU. I felt that if anything that the two of you could rejuvenate me and get me back into the fight. Now I wake and wonder what you were like and how you are doing now. I remember the first months that we met and I know it was not the best of times. How I wish I could of take that time back. I remember the first live fire we did and things not going well but you never quit. A sign of a true Warrior. I will miss the fact that I will never get to see that look you gave and the "what now SGT P" you would say. I will miss bummin a newport and telling you I am trying to quit. I will miss you. I will make my journey to ALASKA and will probably think of you the whole way. I will be their for your family and will do my best to carry your legacy on. YOU ARE A WARRIOR and I will never forget you. BIG P

At Arlington on Veterans Day, 1985 President Reagan stated:
"It is in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country, in defense of us, in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the founding fathers, brave and gray haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives--The one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died they gave up their chance to be husbands, fathers, and grandfathers. They gave up the chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for our country, for us. And all we can do is REMEMBER!"
Irving, you're gone, but will never be forgotten...R.I.P Soldier!

To Sgt Irving Hernandez
My prays and thoughts are with all of you, keep the memories close in your hearts, your Hero is watching over all who loved him and knew him ,
July 18, 2006
To the Family of Sgt. Irving Hernandez;
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
