Irwin Becker, MD of Bryn Mawr, PA and Longboat Key, FL passed away on March 9, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Irv’s journey began at Overbrook High School, and he went on to attend Villanova University and Thomas Jefferson Medical College. In 1965, after serving in the US Army, he returned to the Philadelphia area to practice Family Medicine, where he faithfully served the communities in which he lived.
During his 30-year tenure as head of the Department of Family Practice at Germantown Hospital, he received numerous accolades including Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Practitioner of the Year, Philadelphia County Medical Society Practitioner of the Year, nominated for National Family Practitioner of the Year, and was named Best Family Physician by Philadelphia Magazine six times. Later, he had the joy of practicing medicine alongside his son in King of Prussia before retiring in 2016.
Irwin was more than a physician; he was an avid golfer and tennis player, and a loyal friend to many. His love, generosity, and dedication as a husband, father, and grandfather were evident to all who knew him. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, four children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren.
