Smith & Heald Funeral HomeIrwin Jenkins, 89, of Amherst NH went to his heavenly home on February 22, 2026 after a massive stroke.
He was born in Scranton, PA, son of Benjamin Jenkins and Bertha Moser Jenkins. After moving to Green Village, New Jersey as a young child he attended elementary and high school in Chatham, NJ, graduating in 1955. He was a member of the All State Chorus.
He married his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Holman in 1963 and they raised two daughters, Jean and Betty.
He worked at Pickering Lumber in Chester NJ and then moved to Amherst NH where he became an independent distributor for Arnold Bakers for 31 years. After retirement he held several part-time jobs, including assistant pastor for the First Baptist Church in Milford NH, and transport services for Catholic Medical Center in Manchester NH.
He served in the National Guard.
His hobbies included geocaching, music and reading.
He is predeceased by five brothers and two sisters: Emerson Jenkins, Carolyn Jenkins, Norman Jenkins, Marion Carter, Quentin Jenkins, Benjamin Jenkins, and Hayden Jenkins, He is also predeceased by his daughter Betty Jenkins.
He leaves his loving wife Peggy of 62 years, daughter Jean Jordan and her husband John Jordan of Manchester, NH and a grandson Jeremiah Willey.
A celebration of life will be held March 7 at 2 pm at New Hope Christian Fellowship, 445 Route 101, Bedford NH.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to in his memory to Wycliffe Bible Translators, www.wycliffe.org. or to New Hope Christian Fellowship, Bedford NH.
